Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of this website. By accessing or using this website you agree to be bound by them. They do not govern any professional engagement with Standing Lawyers, which is governed by our Terms of Engagement and by the engagement letter for the matter concerned.

1. Definitions

1.1 In these Terms of Use: "we", "us", "our" and "the firm" mean Standing Lawyers; "you" means the person accessing this website; "this website" means the website published at standinglawyers.com and every page, sub-domain, feature, form and document forming part of it; and "content" means all material published on this website in any form.

2. Acceptance, and changes to these terms

2.1 Your use of this website constitutes your acceptance of these Terms of Use as they stand at the time of that use, together with the Disclaimer, the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy, each of which is incorporated into these Terms of Use by reference.

2.2 We may amend these Terms of Use at any time by publishing the amended version on this website. The amended version applies to your use of the website from the time it is published. You should read these Terms of Use each time you use this website for anything of consequence.

2.3 If you do not accept these Terms of Use, in whole or in part, your only remedy is to stop using this website.

3. Nature and purpose of this website

3.1 This website is an informational website published within the limits Rule 36 of Chapter II of Part VI of the Bar Council of India Rules permits. It is not an advertisement and it is not a solicitation of work. The Disclaimer explains this in full and governs on any question of the website's regulatory character.

3.2 Content is provided for general information only, is not legal advice, and must not be relied on as such. Clause 3 of the Disclaimer applies to all content and is not repeated here.

4. Permitted use

4.1 We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access this website and to view, print and store individual pages of it for your own reference or for the internal purposes of your organisation.

4.2 That licence does not extend to any commercial exploitation of the content, and it terminates automatically on any breach of these Terms of Use.

5. Prohibited use

5.1 You must not:

  • use this website for any unlawful purpose, or in any manner that is fraudulent, deceptive or harmful, or in breach of any applicable law including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to this website, to the server on which it is stored, or to any server, computer or database connected to it, whether by hacking, credential stuffing, password mining, injection or any other means;
  • probe, scan or test the vulnerability of this website or breach or circumvent any security or authentication measure, except with our prior written permission;
  • introduce any virus, trojan, worm, logic bomb, ransomware or other material which is malicious or technologically harmful;
  • attack this website by means of a denial of service attack or a distributed denial of service attack;
  • use any robot, spider, scraper, crawler or other automated means to access, copy, monitor or index any part of this website, or to extract or compile its content, except that a general purpose search engine may index this website in the ordinary way subject to the directives published in our robots file;
  • use any content, in whole or in part, to train, fine-tune, evaluate or ground any machine learning model, large language model or other automated system, without our prior written permission;
  • reproduce, duplicate, copy, republish, frame, mirror, sell or otherwise exploit any substantial part of this website, or systematically extract or re-utilise any part of its contents;
  • remove, obscure or alter any copyright, trade mark or other proprietary notice;
  • impersonate any person, or misrepresent your identity or your affiliation with any person, including by submitting a form in another person's name; or
  • use any form on this website to transmit unsolicited commercial communications, or content that is defamatory, obscene, abusive, or that infringes the rights of any person.

5.2 We may investigate any suspected breach of clause 5.1 and may report it to law enforcement authorities and co-operate with them, including by disclosing the technical records described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Rate limiting and anti-abuse measures

6.1 The forms on this website are protected by automated anti-abuse measures, including submission rate limits and a hidden field which ordinary users never see and automated submitters commonly complete.

6.2 Those measures may prevent or delay a legitimate submission. If a form will not accept your message, please write to us directly at the address in clause 13 rather than assuming that we have received it.

7. Information you submit through this website

7.1 You are responsible for the accuracy of anything you submit through a form on this website, and for ensuring that you are entitled to disclose to us any personal data of another person that you include in it.

7.2 This website does not retain what you submit. A submission is delivered to us by email and no copy is stored by the website. Our Privacy Policy explains this and its consequences in full.

7.3 You must not submit confidential or privileged material through this website. Clause 5 of the Disclaimer applies.

7.4 In particular, do not submit the identifying details of an asset through a form on this website: a permanent account number, a folio, policy, account or member number, certificate numbers, a scanned identity or succession document, or bank details. Clause 3.2.3 of our Privacy Policy explains what to send instead, and clause 7 of the Disclaimer records that we will never ask you for banking credentials of any kind.

8. Intellectual property

8.1 All intellectual property rights in this website and in its content are owned by or licensed to Standing Lawyers, and are protected by the Copyright Act, 1957, the Trade Marks Act, 1999 and other applicable law. The name Standing Lawyers and the column device are the subject of pending trade mark applications in Class 45.

8.2 Nothing in these Terms of Use transfers any intellectual property right to you. Any use of the content beyond the licence in clause 4 requires our prior written permission, which may be sought at the address in clause 13.

8.3 If you believe that anything on this website infringes your intellectual property rights, please write to us at the address in clause 13 identifying the material, your right, and the basis of your claim. We will investigate and, where the claim is made out, remove or correct the material.

9. Availability, and changes to this website

9.1 This website is provided on an as available basis. We do not warrant that it will be available at any particular time, that access will be uninterrupted or error free, or that defects will be corrected.

9.2 We may change, suspend, withdraw or restrict all or any part of this website, and may remove or amend any content, at any time and without notice.

10. Third party websites

10.1 Links from this website to websites operated by others are provided for convenience only, do not constitute an endorsement, and are used at your own risk. Clause 9 of the Disclaimer applies.

11. Limitation of liability and indemnity

11.1 Clause 11 of the Disclaimer sets out the limitation of our liability in relation to this website. It applies to these Terms of Use as though set out here in full.

11.2 You agree to indemnify us against any loss, damage, cost or expense, including reasonable legal costs, that we incur arising out of your breach of these Terms of Use or your unlawful use of this website.

12. General

12.1 If any provision of these Terms of Use is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision is severed and the remainder continues in force.

12.2 No failure or delay by us in enforcing any provision of these Terms of Use is a waiver of it, and no single or partial exercise of any right prevents its further exercise.

12.3 These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of India and clause 12 of the Disclaimer governs jurisdiction.

Effect, review and contact

A This document takes effect on 7 August 2026 and replaces any earlier version of it published on this website. The version published here is the operative version at any given time.

B We review this document at least once a year, and additionally whenever the law, our systems or our practice changes in a way that affects it. Where a change is material we will say so on this page and, where the change concerns personal data and we hold a means of reaching you, we will tell you directly.
