Accessibility Statement

Standing Lawyers intends this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, magnification, speech input, keyboard-only navigation or other assistive technology. This statement records what we aim for, what we have done, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

1. The standard we work to

1.1 We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. That is the technical standard generally used to assess whether a website is accessible, and it is the standard to which the accessibility instruments applied in India refer.

1.2 We are conscious of the accessibility obligations arising under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, in particular section 40 and the standards notified under it, and of the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites to the extent they represent settled Indian practice on web accessibility. We treat WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the operative technical benchmark.

1.3 This statement applies to the public pages of standinglawyers.com. It does not apply to the firm's administrative area, which is not available to the public.

2. Measures taken

2.1 The following are built into this website:

• Contrast. Text and background colour combinations are checked against the ratios WCAG requires and are corrected where they fail, rather than being judged by eye. A brass tone previously used for small capitalised labels was replaced after measurement showed it fell below the required ratio on a light background.
• Keyboard operation. Every interactive element can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, in a logical order, and the element that currently has focus is always visibly indicated.
• Skip link. A "Skip to content" link is the first focusable element on every page, so that a keyboard or screen reader user need not traverse the navigation on each page.
• Structure. Pages use a single main heading followed by a correctly nested heading hierarchy, and use landmark regions, so that assistive technology can present an outline and move between sections.
• Language. The document language is declared, so that a screen reader selects the correct pronunciation rules.
• Text alternatives. Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; images that are purely decorative are hidden from assistive technology so they are not announced as noise.
• Motion. This website uses no entrance animation, no scroll-triggered movement and no automatically playing media. Nothing moves unless you move it. Where a transition remains, it is suppressed for anyone whose system requests reduced motion.
• Resizing and reflow. Layouts are fluid and have been checked at widths from 320 pixels upwards, and content reflows without horizontal scrolling when text is enlarged.
• Target size. Interactive controls in the footer and in the notice strip are sized to meet the minimum target dimensions, so they can be operated without fine pointer control.
• Forms. Every field has a persistent visible label rather than a placeholder alone, errors are described in text rather than by colour alone, and each error is associated with its field so that assistive technology announces it.
• No time limits. Nothing on this website expires, times out or requires a response within a fixed period.

3. How this was assessed

3.1 Accessibility was assessed by the firm during development, by a combination of automated checking, manual keyboard testing, and measurement of layout and contrast at a range of viewport widths. It has not been the subject of a formal third party audit or certification.

3.2 We regard that as a limitation of this statement rather than a qualification of the effort, and we say so because a claim of conformance carries more weight when the basis for it is stated.

4. Known limitations

4.1 We are aware of the following, and record them rather than leave them to be discovered:

• Justified body text. Long passages on several pages are justified to both margins, which is a deliberate typographic choice. Justification can open uneven spacing between words, which some readers, including some readers with dyslexia, find harder to follow. Browser reader modes and user stylesheets override it, and we will reconsider it if it causes difficulty.
• The notice strip. The notice shown on arrival is a non-modal strip at the foot of the page. It does not trap focus and does not prevent you using the page, which is deliberate, but it does occupy part of a small screen until it is dismissed.
• Documents. No downloadable documents are published on this website at present. If we publish one, we will aim to make it accessible, and where a document originates with a third party and cannot be made accessible we will say so and offer the content another way.
• Third party content. Where a future page embeds material provided by another organisation, that material's accessibility is outside our control, and we will note it here.

5. Telling us about a problem, and getting the content another way

5.1 If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, please write to work@standinglawyers.com with the word Accessibility in the subject line, telling us the page, what you were trying to do, what happened, and the browser and assistive technology you were using if you know them.

5.2 We will acknowledge within three working days and respond substantively within ten working days. Where a fix will take longer than that, we will tell you when to expect it.

5.3 Separately from any fix, we will provide the information you were trying to reach in a format you can use, by email, in large print, or read to you by telephone, whichever suits you. You do not need to wait for the website to be corrected in order to get the content.

5.4 If you are not satisfied with our response, our Grievance Redressal Policy sets out how to escalate it.

Effect, review and contact

A This Accessibility Statement takes effect on 7 August 2026 and replaces any earlier version of it published on this website. The version published here is the operative version at any given time.

B We review this Accessibility Statement at least once a year, and additionally whenever the law, our systems or our practice changes in a way that affects it. Where a change is material we will say so on this page and, where the change concerns personal data and we hold a means of reaching you, we will tell you directly.
